1. Food Biotechnolgy is application of modern technology to modify genes of animals, plants, and microorganisms to create new species which have desired production, marketing, or nutrition related properties.
2. Genetically modified (GM) foods are foods derived from genetically modified organisms.
3. The potential benefits of GE foods are less use of pesticides, reduced use of herbicides, reduced use of fertilizers, greater nutrition, a longer shelf life, better flavor and finally they could be disease resistant.
4. Some of the potential risks include; new allergens in the food supply, antibiotic resistance, production of new toxins, and finally an enhancement of the environment for toxic fungi.
